This site contains the names and the descendants of all 16 great-great-grandparents of my children. You can find them, and in most cases their ancestors, in the Ancestors of My Children report by clicking the First, Second, or Third Page above.
This site is always a work in progress. The ancestry report and most of the descendancy reports were originally uploaded in April 2011. Some of the reports have been updated since then, and are noted as such. In the Spring of 2012, I reviewed the 1940 census for the 4 southernmost townships in Winneshiek County and the 4 northernmost townships in Fayette County. While I didn't enter every name, I enriched the data for all of my NE Iowa families with this data. The Iowa families represented here were updated in May 2012. I am beginning to write narrative versions of each of the 16 immigrant families from whom my children are descended.
In January 2013, thanks to a new genealogy friend from Germany, Helmut Reis, I discovered 36 NEW ANCESTORS for my children and me. The new ancestors include my first documented ancestor from the 14th century, Philip Ulmann, b. abt 1380.
My siblings and I are 1/32d DUTCH, and my children are 31/64ths German, 1/4 Irish, and 1/64th Dutch. The primary surname of the Dutch ancestors is ter Huurne. For fun, I have added a file for the Descendants of Berent ter Huurne, b. abt 1600 in the Netherlands.
The First Page contains the descendancy reports for the Kuennen, Hollerbach (Hollenbeck), Huinker, and Tobin families, honoring all four of their grandparents. The Second Page adds their great-grandparents, containing the descendancy reports for the Kuehner, Einck, Lang, and Ruddy Families. The remaining great-great grandparents' families - the Meyer, Balk, Braun, Mehs, Heck, Straub, Powell, and Lavelle families - can be found on the Third Page.
Links to my old site at Angelfire, my main database at Gencircles, and to Laverne Catanzarite's Families of St. Lucas site are found at the Links page (under Fun) above. The Fun tab also includes a page that links geocaching to genealogy, and files concerning my favorite daughter-in-law's genealogy - the Badgley family. Recently I have moved the Balk, Frana, Bodensteiner, and Schmitt families from this website to my website for the Families of Ossian, Festina, and St. Lucas.
Finally, there is a new page for possibly related folks, including a file for folks that I call the Michigan Kuennens. The Guild of One-Name Studies encourages folks to gather all information relating to a single surname, and its variants, so I'm giving it a try, with the results at the One-Name Studies link above.
